Flat & Low-Slope Roofing Systems
Reliable Solutions for Low-Slope and Flat Roofs
Flat or low-slope roofs require specialized systems and experienced installers – and Roofer Chicks® has both. Whether you’re covering a commercial building, a porch, or a tricky tie-in on a home, we install high-performing systems that are built to last in Texas heat, rain, and hail.
We specialize in two industry-leading flat roofing systems: TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) and Modified Bitumen. We also offer PVC in specific applications, such as restaurants or food facilities.
TPO Roofing
Clean, Durable, Energy-Efficient
TPO is a flexible, single-ply membrane that has become one of the most popular flat roofing systems in the U.S. It’s especially ideal for commercial buildings and flat sections on homes. We typically install white or beige membranes, both of which are reflective and energy-efficient.
TPO Highlights:
- ✅ Energy Efficiency – White surface reflects sunlight to reduce cooling costs.
- ✅ Puncture Protection – We typically install over ½” ISO recovery board, which cushions the membrane and prevents penetration from the underside.
- ✅ Proper Components Only – We only use manufacturer-approved TPO components, including edge metals, corners, boots, and adhesives.
- ✅ Welded Integrity – TPO can only bond to itself, so proper seam welding and system components are critical for long-term performance.
- ✅ Tapering Options Available – We can use tapered ISO systems to promote drainage and reduce ponding.
Modified Bitumen (ModBit)
Layered Protection That Lasts
Modified Bitumen is a proven flat roof system made from asphalt blends and reinforcing materials. At Roofer Chicks®, we always install a two-ply system – a base sheet and a cap sheet – for added strength, durability, and lifespan.
We offer:
- 🔹 Self-Adhered Systems (our most common)
- 🔹 Torch-Down Systems (used in certain conditions)
- 🔹 Cold-Applied Systems (when heat isn’t appropriate)
What You Need to Know:
- ⚠️ ModBit cannot be installed on completely flat surfaces — it does not handle ponding water. If we encounter zero-pitch areas, we will:
- Recommend using TPO (even in residential applications)
- Rework the substrate with carpentry to add slope, or
- Use tapered ISO insulation or crickets to create positive drainage
- ✅ Great for tie-ins, porches, and residential flat sections
- ✅ Provides a highly durable, layered barrier
What’s ISO and Why Does It Matter?
ISO (Polyisocyanurate) insulation is a rigid foam board used beneath flat roofing membranes. It plays several important roles:
- Thermal Performance – Adds R-value to improve insulation
- Tapered Systems – Helps create slope for drainage on flat roofs
- Protection – Used as a ½” recovery board under TPO to prevent fasteners and deck irregularities from damaging the membrane from below
- Sound Reduction – Adds acoustic dampening benefits
We assess every project individually and will recommend the right type and thickness of ISO for your goals.
What About PVC?
While less common for general use, we also install PVC roofing membranes, especially for restaurants and facilities that deal with grease or chemical exposure. PVC has excellent chemical resistance and weldable seams, making it a top performer in those environments.
Let’s Talk About Your Flat Roof
Choosing the right system isn’t just about the material – it’s about the details: slope, drainage, foot traffic, climate, and use. We take all of that into account when recommending a flat roof solution for your home or building.
From porches and patios to full commercial re-roofs, Roofer Chicks® has the experience, certifications, and installation standards to get it done right.
