Chicks on Good Morning America
Hello, there! This is Ami Feller, and I own Roofer Chicks, located in New Braunfels, Texas. I am so glad you dropped by our website! Whether you are dropping by because you are exploring us as potentially a contractor to help you with roof issues, or you are just curious why in the world we are called Roofer Chicks and what that’s all about, I’m thrilled to have you here! I have written most of our website content myself in the hopes that you will really see who we are through what you find here.
Why Roofer Chicks for YOU?
If you are currently looking for a roofing contractor in New Braunfels or surrounding communities (we currently go about an hour from New Braunfels up and down the Austin/San Antonio corridor), I invite you to explore our page and see what makes us different from the competition, aside from our fun name and all the hot pink. To know us is to love us, really. We want your contractor experience with us to be the best contractor experience you have ever had in your life. And honestly, we don’t think it requires rocket science to do that. Our goals are:
- To communicate throughout the entire process
- To explain and educate if there is anything that is unclear (including how the insurance process works)
- To do what we say we are going to do, when we say we are going to do it
- To not sell you something you don’t need
- If we do business together, to find a solution and brand that is the best fit for you
- To leave your property clean and your roof beautified
- If anything should ever go wrong, or should there be a warranty issue, to answer the phone and do the next right thing – we will not leave you hanging!
Go ahead, dig around a little and see what you think! And if there’s anything you can’t find or something that you think I could do better, I would love to get your feedback on the website!

Why the Name “Roofer Chicks”?
I’ve been in the roofing industry off and on for almost 20 years. I got started with my big brother Scott back in college (in 1994). I love the roofing industry, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities it has provided me. I have spent quite a few years of my life as a single mom, and because of this industry not only was I able to keep our home after the divorce (it was pretty touch and go there for a while), I was also able to be present for my daughter’s life: I have not missed too many school performances or extracurricular activities because of the flexibility of this job.
Women in the roofing industry represent less than 5% of the work force. When it comes to labor, women account for less than .5% of all labor. These numbers disturb me, and I hope they disturb you, especially since we are living in a day and time when the trades are having a difficult time finding labor. Why are we automatically discounting 50% of the workforce? The roofing industry is not a “Men’s Only” club, and I am passionate to show other women that they should at least consider a career in the trades, specifically in roofing.
I am NOT a man hater. I love men, which is probably why I was drawn to roofing in the first place! My vision for Roofer Chicks is absolutely not to ever have a company that is 100% female. First of all, I’m pretty sure that’s illegal, but second, I would never want to have a workforce that is all female – men bring too much to the table for that nonsense. What I would like is to have a workforce that is more representative of the community we live and work in, and that community in New Braunfels, Texas, is about 50% female. I bet it is pretty close to that wherever you live, too!
The men in the roofing industry have been nothing but good to me and I never, ever would have learned everything I have learned without the amazing men in roofing. I learned so much of what I know from my big brother Scott Feller (who owns Kanga Roof in Round Rock, Texas, with his wife Stacie), Robert Guevara at ABC Supply Company, and James Allen with GAF, to name a key few. These men have supported me and stood by me and taught me so much. People often ask me if I feel discriminated against because I am a woman and my answer is, “Oh, heck no.” I honestly feel like being a woman is an advantage, and I am certainly not a victim of my gender.
Getting women to try their hand at roofing has not been easy. Sometimes women get excited about giving it a go, only to have their husbands, fathers or brothers talk them out of it before they even get here. Roofing is hard work, for sure – I won’t lie about that. But women are not foreign or allergic to hard work – and there are a lot of areas where women tend to excel: customer service and attention to detail to name two. My goal is to get to a full crew of 6 women who swing a hammer and dazzle the world with their roofing competence. As I write this web page, I have three such women. If you know of someone who might be a good fit, I would love it if you would send them our way!
